La Cámara baja comenzó a sesionar pasadas las 12.15 para tratar la iniciativa del Ejecutivo, que cuenta con amplio respaldo parlamentario. El debate se da en el marco de una sesión especial.
La propuesta del Poder Ejecutivo recibiría media sanción con el apoyo de la UCR, el PRO y el Frente Renovador, mientras que el interbloque Frente Amplio Progresista (FAP) y el Frente de Izquierda (FIT), defenderán proyectos alternativos.
Se trata de un proyecto, anunciado por la presidenta Cristina Kirchner el 1 de marzo ante la Asamblea Legislativa, que busca declarar de interés público nacional y como objetivo prioritario del país la política de reactivación de los ferrocarriles de pasajeros y de cargas.

El proyecto establece la creación de Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado, que según el ministro del Interior y Transporte, Florencio Randazzo, será la “sociedad madre de todo el sistema”, absorbiendo la Administradora de Infraestructura Ferroviaria (AIF), la Operadora Ferroviaria Sociedad del Estado (SOFSE) y Belgrano Cargas y Logística.
La medida apunta a “profundizar el proceso de reordenamiento ferroviario y estratégico establecido por este gobierno nacional y en atención a la especificidad y profesionalidad que el sistema ferroviario requiere”.
De acuerdo a los fundamentos, la iniciativa “tiene por objeto la recuperación definitiva de la administración de los ferrocarriles por parte del Estado, partiendo de la idea central de que el mismo puede gestionar, incluso de una manera más eficiente que los privados”, remarca la propuesta enviada por el Poder Ejecutivo
