El sable corvo del general José de San Martín será trasladado el próximo domingo al Museo Histórico Nacional para su exhibición permanente, bajo custodia del Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo “General San Martín”, en el marco de un desfile que se realizará como parte de las actividades de la Semana de Mayo.
La presidenta Cristina Fernández de Kirchner dispuso que el sable corvo de José de San Martín sea trasladado desde el Regimiento de Granaderos que se encuentra ubicado en el barrio de Palermo hacia el museo en el barrio de San Telmo.
Así fue dispuesto en el decreto 843/2015 publicado ayer en el Boletín Oficial, que lleva la firma de la Presidenta; del jefe de Gabinete, Aníbal Fernández; y de los ministros de Defensa, Agustín Rossi y de Cultura, Teresa Parodi.

Según se expresa en los considerandos del decreto, el sable “posee una trascendental importancia histórica, por haberlo acompañado en toda la guerra de la Independencia de la América del Sud, constituyendo testimonio de la firmeza con que sostuviera los derechos de la Patria en esa gesta histórica”.
El traslado se realizará desde el RegimIento de Granaderos que se encuentra ubicado en el barrio de Palermo hacia el museo en el barrio de San Telmo, en el marco de un desfile por un nuevo aniversario de la Revolución de Mayo.
En el testamento de San Martín, fechado en París el 23 de enero de 1844, el Libertador expresó su deseo de que el sable le sea entregado a Juan Manuel de Rosas, como “prueba de la satisfacción que como argentino he tenido al ver la firmeza con que ha sostenido el honor de la República contra las injustas pretensiones de los extranjeros que trataban de humillarla”.
Por su parte, Rosas en su testamento dispuso legar a su amigo, y consuegro Juan Nepomuceno Terrero la espada.
Luego de la muerte de Rosas en 1877 y fallecido también Terrero y su esposa, el sable de San Martín quedó en posesión de Máximo Terrero, hijo mayor del matrimonio y esposo de Manuela Rosas, quien lo donó a la Nación Argentina, manifestando el deseo de que fuera depositado en el Museo Histórico Nacional.
En 1897, el entonces presidente José Evaristo Uriburu dispuso que el sable se depositara en el actual Museo Histórico Nacional, donde permaneció expuesto durante 66 años.
Posteriormente, la reliquia fue sustraída del museo en dos oportunidades, en los años 1963 y 1965, y en 1967 se transfirió al Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballos General San Martín, la unidad militar creada por el Libertador.
Según explica el decreto publicado hoy, el traslado definitivo se da en el marco de un proceso de reconfiguración que está llevando a cabo el Museo Histórico, que busca “exponer la historia argentina desde un abordaje de la construcción social, a fin de volver a articular exposiciones permanentes que den testimonio de nuestra cultura, desde los pobladores originarios hasta el siglo XX”.
“El sable constituye uno de nuestros máximos símbolos, representando la lucha por la libertad, la dignidad y la soberanía de nuestra Nación y de los pueblos hermanos de América Latina”, destaca el decreto.
