Los hogares argentinos pasaron de un promedio de consumo de internet de 20 gigabits a otro superior de 30 gibabits promedio, empujados por el video a demanda, así como por las herramientas de almacenamiento y uso de la nube, según relavimientos privados.

Para Carrier en promedio cada persona utiliza entre 2 y 3 dispositivos para conectarse a internet. A la computadora fija instalada en el 94% de los hogares y al teléfono móvil con una presencia del 88%, se le suman la tablet (30%), el smartTv (15%) y las consolas de juegos (12%).
Explicó que está explosión de la demanda de capacidad de parte de los hogares, tiene relación con el incremento del consumo de datos que se refleja “claramente en el caso del video, dónde en pocos años se pasó de videos de baja definición a definición estándar (SD), luego a HD (alta definición) y ahora en 4K (ultra alta definición)”.
El video, agregó Carrier, “se reproduce en computadoras, celulares y televisores“, pero además los teléfonos móviles “más modernos y de alta gama comienzan a incluir la capacidad de grabar en 4K y ese video será compartido en redes sociales o subido a algún sitio para su posterior consumo“.
Además del video, Carrier menciona también el impacto del streaming de audio, desde radios en línea a servicios específicos (como Spotify) que “tienen opciones de alta calidad y mayor consumo de datos“.
