El inédito lanzamiento, además, le permitió conseguir la marca de acceso a los Juegos de Río de Janeiro 2016, que serán su segunda experiencia olímpica tras Londres 2012, y cobrarse revancha después de una performance que no lo conformó en los recientes Panamericanos Toronto, donde terminó cuarto (77,68), fuera del podio, sin repetir la medalla de bronce lograda en los anteriores de Guadalajara 2011 (79,53).
El deportista de Marcos Paz se transformó en el tercer argentino finalista en la capital china después de Germán Chiaraviglio, que lo consiguió en salto con garrocha, y Germán Lauro, que el domingo terminó noveno en lanzamiento de bala.
Toledo saltó a la fama en el atletismo nacional a los 16 años tras su participación en los Juegos Evita y en 2012 fue subcampeón mundial juvenil con una marca de 77,09 en la reunión de Barcelona, España.
El joven atleta, becado por la Secretaría de Deportes de la Nación y el Ente Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (Enard), hizo historia este lunes al acceder a la final de su especialidad como segundo de su grupo clasificatorio, detrás del japonés Ryohei Aroei, que clavó su mejor marca en la temporada con 84,66 metros.
Toledo logró el boleto a su primer Mundial de mayores el 29 de marzo pasado cuando mejoró su propio récord nacional con un envío de 82,90 metros en el Grand Prix Internacional ‘Hugo La Nasa’ celebrado en el Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (Cenard), del barrio porteño de Núñez.
Pese a la mejora de la plusmarca argentina en Beijing, Toledo permanece segundo en el ranking sudamericano histórico detrás del paraguayo Edgard Baumann, que llevó la jabalina a 84,70 metros el 17 de octubre de 1999. También tercero en el escalafón panamericano después del estadounidense Tim Glover (84,09) y el triniteño Keshorn Walcott (86,43), campeón olímpico 2012 y vencedor de la final del mundial juvenil de Barcelona ese mismo año.
Entre otros logros de su prometedora carrera deportiva, Toledo también se coronó cuatro veces campeón argentino y subió al podio dos veces en Campeonatos Sudamericanos de mayores, al lograr la medalla de bronce en Cartagena (Colombia) 2013 con 75,53 metros y la de plata en Lima (Perú) este año con 79,34 metros.
