Después de haber obtenido la media sanción en Diputados, el proyecto que crea la Universidad Nacional de Almirante Brown (UNAB) obtuvo, por amplia mayoría, el dictamen de las comisiones de Educación y Presupuesto del Senado. Ahora sólo falta su tratamiento en el recinto de la Cámara Alta para que se concrete el sueño de los vecinos de Almirante Brown, único distrito del país con más de 400 mil habitantes que no cuenta con una Casa de Altos Estudios.
“Para muchos vecinos del conurbano estudiar en una universidad implica largas horas de viaje. Por eso, es muy importante y es un paso muy significativo el impulso de una Universidad en Almirante Brown que brindará mayores posibilidades de acceso a la educación superior a la comunidad de Brown y de distritos vecinos. Le agradezco el apoyo y acompañamiento a este proyecto por parte de los legisladores de los distintos bloques del Senado”, destacó el presidente de la Comisión de Presupuesto, el senador Juan Manual Abal Medina quien junto a su par de Educación, Eduardo Aguillar, presidieron la reunión parlamentaria conjunta que dictamino el respaldo a la UNAB.
El proyecto de la Universidad de Almirante Brown fue presentado en el 2013 por diputados del bloque del Frente para la Victoria. Lograda la sanción en la Cámara Baja, la Universidad de Almirante Brown va por la sanción definitiva en el Senado.
De ser creada, se convertirá en la décimo sexta Casa de Altos Estudios creada en el país desde el año 2003. Pero en Almirante Brown aseguran que entre sus virtudes se encontrará una especial: su plan de estudios le dará prioridad a las carreras con salida laboral garantizada en la región. Apunta a construir una universidad con especializaciones, donde se destaquen las carreras cortas y con rápida salida laboral aprovechando los nichos productivos que existen en el distrito como el Sector Industrial Planificado. Por ejemplo, a Ingeniería en Informática o Electromecánica, la Tecnicatura en Producción Industrial, la Tecnicatura en Saneamiento y Control Ambiental, y la Licenciatura en Nutrición y en Enfermería.
