Una encuesta del diario online Mirror.co.uk reveló que el 40% de sus lectores se mostraron partidarios de que Gran Bretaña se “comprometa” con Argentina por las islas Malvinas, luego de la polémica que comenzó con las declaraciones a favor del diálogo de Jeremy Corbyn, el dirigente del Partido Laborista de Inglaterra que se encamina a liderarlo luego de las elecciones internas del 10 de septiembre.
Las declaraciones de Corbyn fueron realizadas en 1982, pero recobraron fuerza a pocos días de que se realice la elección interna del principal partido opositor al conservador británico y primer ministro David Cameron, en franca oposición a la postura de Argentina -incluso replicada por el Papa Francisco- de “dialogar” entre ambos países sobre la cuestión Malvinas.
En ese entonces, Corbyn había dicho que la guerra de Malvinas fue un “plan de conservadores” y “una pérdida de hombres desempleados que fueron enviados a las Malvinas para morir por (la entonces primera ministra británica Margareth) Thatcher.

Dos años atrás, en una entrevista que le realizó la cadena de televisón BBC, Corbyn se había manifestado partidario de un “cierto grado de administración conjunta” entre Argentina y el Reino Unido, con el objetivo de resolver el conflicto entre ambos países por las islas.
Según recoge el diario Daily Star, un vocero del dirigente sostuvo ayer que “no es un secreto que Jeremy fue un crítico de la Guerra de Malvinas y ha instado a una solución negociada a largo plazo“.
Uno de los detractores de Corbyn es Simon Weston, uno de los ex combatientes ingleses en Malvinas y quien calificó de “ignorantes” sus declaraciones en el diario Mirror, al tiempo que consideró que su sugerencia de compartir soberanía sobre las islas es “tonto al extremo”.
Curiosamente, en el artículo online que recoge las declaraciones de Weston, se abrió una encuesta realizada a los lectores del diario, de los cuales el 40 por ciento se manifestó a favor de un acercamiento entre ambos países por las Malvinas.
