Con el 66,12 de las mesas escrutadas, minutos pasadas las 20, el funcionario del PRO se acomodó a casi 20 puntos de distancia de Lousteau que obtuvo el 25,92 por ciento de los votos, mientras que en tercer lugar quedó el candidato del Frente para la Victoria (FpV), el titular de Aerolíneas Argentinas, Mariano Recalde, que obtuvo el 21,51 por ciento.
En cuarto lugar se ubicó el candidato de Autodeterminación y Libertad, Luis Zamora, con el 4 por ciento de los votos, mientras que la candidata del Frente de Izquierda y los Trabajadores, Myriam Bregman, ocupó el último lugar con el 3,11 por ciento de los votos.
En términos de votos Larreta obtuvo 552.950, Lousteau 315.377, Recalde 261.771, Zamora 48.758 y Bregman 37.846.
Al no alcanzar el 50 por ciento de los votos -porcentaje exigido para ganar en primera vuelta-, la fórmula integrada por Larreta y el senador nacional Diego Santilli deberá enfrentarse en un balotaje, el 19 de julio próximo, con la que integran Lousteau y el diputado nacional Fernando Sánchez.
A las 19.55, con casi el 40 por ciento de las mesas escrutadas, fue la vicejefa de Gobierno porteño y precandidata a gobernador a de la provincia de Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal, fue la primera en referirse a los resultados concretos de la elección al sostener que se tornaría inevitable el balotaje.
La declaración de Vidal, que se mostró junto a Santilli, fue a contramano de los rumores que habían instalado distintos operadores del PRO que, pasadas las 17 habían comenzado a difundir que Larreta se encaminaba a ganar en primera vuelta y que de no lograrlo la diferencia sería tal que obligaría a Lousteau a renunciar a participar de una segunda vuelta.
Los trascendidos y el rebote de esa información en distintos medios generaron que Fernando Sánchez, el primero en hablar en el búnker de Lousteau, pasadas las 18, debiera ratificar que su fórmula no se bajaría de una segunda vuelta bajo ningún concepto.
Los dirigentes del PRO recibieron las noticias en su habitual comando de campaña ubicado en Costa Salguero, mientras que el equipo de Lousteau se acomodó en el salón Palais de Glace y el Frente para la Victoria tuvo su base en un salón del Hotel NH Tango.
La última elección general para jefe de Gobierno porteño también debió dirimirse en una segunda vuelta luego de que Mauricio Macri obtuviera el 47,07 por ciento y el actual secretario nacional para Asuntos Relativos en Malvinas lograra el 27,87 por ciento.
La elección del 2011 fue disputada por 14 candidatos a jefe de Gobierno mientras que en esta ocasión la disputaron solo los cinco que superaron las elecciones primarias, abiertas, simultáneas y obligatorias que se implementaron por primera vez para esta ocasión.
La jornada de hoy tuvo otras dos novedades en la ciudad de Buenos Aires: se estrenó el sistema de Boleta Única Electrónica y unos 40.000 jóvenes de entre 16 y 18 años estuvieron habilitados para votar por primera vez a un jefe de Gobierno porteño.
